Radio Drama on Ty Cobb to be Broadcast on WVAO 105.9 FM
Tim Waite has been cast as an elderly, ailing Ty Cobb in "Ty Cobb and the Great American Pastime" by Michael Riccards. The play is a production of the Drama Circle, directed by Genevieve Fraser and performed as a radio drama on WVAO 105.9 FM, the radio arm of AOTV- Community Television, 163 South Main Street, Athol, MA. ----
Additional cast members include Barry Robichaud as the young Ty Cobb, Cooper Wood as Cobb's father, Joseph Wright as Babe Ruth, Chet Lubelczyk as the Radio Announcer and Genevieve Fraser as Cobb's mother and the play's narrator. -----
Born in 1886 in Georgia, known as the Georgia Peach, Cobb was an American Major League outfielder who spent 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, the last six as the team's player'manager, and finished his career with the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1936 Cobb received the most votes of any player on the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame ballot. In 1999, editors at the Sporting News ranked Ty Cobb third on their list of "Baseball's 100 Greatest Players." Yet, despite his success, Cobb was a complex man who had his share of inner demons. Michael Richards play on Ty Cobb explores the inner man behind that fame, a man many consider to be the most competitive and complex personality ever to appear in a big league uniform. ------
The Drama Circle is free and open to the public. Readers and audience members are always welcome. For further information, contact, Genevieve Fraser at 978-544-1872 or email: FraserGenevieve@gmail.com
